Hi,
We recently purchased a new to us 2021 Sonic 190vrb which has one flexible 100 watt solar panel. Has anybody added Solar to their sonic? Is it better to get the portable (hard) Solar or add panels on the roof? from what I understand this trailer doesn’t support hard Solar panels and the flexible ones don’t have a great reputation. Or maybe we should invest in a generator instead?….
thanks, Thomas

The answer depends on what you want to do with your Sonic, i.e. boondocking or full/partial hookups. You also need to know your energy usage. I have a Stratus. I have a Champion 4500 watt dual fuel generator. I can power my trailer. including the AC. I can also power part of my house. Many campgrounds don't allow generators. I have two 170 watt Zamp solar panels on the trailer roof and 45 watt panel mounted to a storage container on the bumper of my trailer. That panel is in the Sun most of the day to keep the batteries charged as my trailer is in covered storage. I don't have lithium batteries, however if I planned on boondocking for an extended period I'd have the batteries.
Personally I like RV parks with full hookups. I configured my trailer to provide options such as spending the night in a Walmart parking lot if need be, or camping for a day or two without hookups.
In the case of a city power outage I can live in my trailer where it's stored. I just hook up the generator and power it from the trailer propane tanks. I have 3 spare propane tanks. I can survive in the summer heat or winter cold for days.
Think about what you want to do with your Sonic, and other possible scenarios.
