Greetings!
For the last 20 years I've been hauling around 5 railroad ties that are about 16"-18" each. I put them under each stabilization jack before extending the jack. This gives me a wide surface to put on the ground and a stable place for the jack to extend to.
However, I was in my 30's when I started using these blocks, and now I'm in my 50's. They're heavy, and beginning to show some rot, so I think they need to be replaced. A quick look on Amazon showed all sorts of options, but they're all in the $150 - $250 range for 4 or 5 blocks. Maybe I'm just cheap, but this seems crazy expensive...
So, fellow RVers, what are you using for your stabilization jacks? Any suggestions? More railroad ties? I'd love to find a solution that is easier on my back and easy to store.
Thanks!
Pat

Some of those fancy expensive jack blocks have some advantages. Some of them will stack inside each other and take up less space. I went to Home Depot and bought a 4X6 and cut it into 16" long so I have 4 for the stabilizer jacks and one for the front smart jack. I got treat wood so they don't dry and split.

You don't need a large footprint on a stabilizer, unless you setup on pluff mud in the low country. I use the lego blocks for the stabilizers.

I used to carry wood blocks, like you I got tired of the weight and now use the lego blocks.

I saw wood used in some parks. Ended up going out and bought the stacking egg create blocks from Walmart. (Camping section) I went back and bought a 2nd set. Both have bags to hold them and they weigh nothing at all...or near nothing. I have used them everywhere I go for the stabilizers and the remaining ones I use under the power tongue jack. They are strong enough for my 190VRB. The plastic is thick and they are durable. You can drive over them for side to side leveling. Now they won't handle a hammer or sledge, but it used properly they are great, efficient, light weight and certainly worth the cost. are strong enough for my 190VRB.
