We have a 2023 302 VRB. The water intake is a shared connection; handle horizontal is city water, handle vertical is a fresh water fill. Inside the hose connection is a backflow device. The dealer told me that if the backflow device is removed and the water pump is used, the water will pump out of the connection; that is the reason the backflow device is installed. The connection obviously feeds a common line and then splits once it enters the trailer. The backflow device has a garden hose size intake but the interior side of the device has a very small hole which is probably only 10% of the size of the input hose; significantly reducing water flow and water pressure.
1- Has anyone modified their intake in any fashion so the fresh tank will fill faster? Any thoughts are welcome.
2- I am thinking of removing the backflow device and install a on/off valve on the common line before the lines split (if I have access). I think this would act the same as capping the hose connection. The valve would be open when the handle is aligned on main input line and when turned; it would route the water from the fresh tank into the city water line and be prevented from spewing out the outside connection. Does this make sense to anyone?
Thank you,

Yes, it makes sense to be frustrated with the setup.
The automatic function of the backflow device is to prevent the pressurized water in your system from trying to fill the public water system, if the public system loses pressure. The kicker is if the backflow device has a 10lb seat spring, depending on the seat size of the device, it could take most of your supply system pressure to unseat it, leaving a trickle to fill the tank. A 10lb spring on a 0.5 square inch area takes 20psi to unseat it. A 10lb spring on a 0.25 square inch area takes 40psi to unseat it.
It's a shame that Venture put profit, over common sense, when they eliminated the gravity fill port.
It may be easier to tee into the water pump output line. Add a hose long enough to get it outside the camper and put on a PEX female hose thread (3/4" Female Hose Thread (FHT)) fitting on the hose end. Plug hose fitting after filling the tank. This leaves your backflow preventer operational for when you are connected to a public source.
