I watched a youtube video and it talked about to get more hot water (6gal to 17gal) is to run both the electric and gas at the same time. Has anyone heard of this and have tried this?

You filling a hot tub? We try to minimize water usage to prevent filling waste tanks.

We're newbie RV'ers, but our dealer recommended we run both electric and LP during periods when we're using a lot of hot water. I switch them both on in the mornings when everyone is taking their showers (we're a family of 5, so lots of showers). We still need to take camp-style showers (toggling water on and off as needed), but I feel like running the electric and LP helps a little with the recharge time. Obviously if you're boondocking, you'll need to monitor water usage. So far, we've only been camping at sites with full hookups.

My dealer did not mention it and I didn't want to do any damage to it. We usually camp at sites with water and electric, have not done full hookups yet. It makes sense when there are showers happening. I have not had a coach with electric, gas only, so this is new to me. Our last camper was a 2000. Thanks for your input luckymama.

Not sure that the current waterheaters allow for this, but on my old camper, I always did this when we had full hookup.

We run the electric when paying for it ( use their resources, not your propane!). When we get up in the morning, we can boost hot water production by using both. Still need to take quick showers, but you can cycle through the people faster. Then we turn off the propane. Same with heating. The electric fireplaces warm the trailer just fine!

Thank you thewolfgang and chrisyoung for the info. It sure makes sense to use electric when possible as you are already paying for it and not use your propane!

Is turning the switch on the back of the rig where the water heater is turn on the gas and turning on the water heater switch in the front bathroom where you turn on the electric? Why is there 2 switches and only 1 water heater?

Andybell26, On your control panel inside the coach there would be 2 switches or buttons. One says electric water heater and the other gas water heater. In order to use the electric water heater, you will need to flip the toggle switch on the hot water unit (outside) and then turn the electric water heater on from the control panel. The toggle switch is near the bottom left behind the tube on the water heater.
