Is there a trick to folding the ladder down?

Watched videos n they make it look simple but when I try I cant get the darned thing down to save my life . Hubby couldn't either. So whats the trick because Im obviously missing something. We would like to put a cover on it  to keep it from the elements(FL sun and rain). Any insight would be appreciated. We have already tried lifting then folding out which is what I saw on the vids.
