We picked up our new trailer and tow vehicle (2021 Ford Explorer XLT) in July and had planned to take a shakedown trip in August. On August 11 a young lady ran a red light and hit the Explorer on the front end ($22K damage). We just got the vehicle back last week and plan to go the the east coast (Canada) for about 10 days on Oct 3rd. While checking to ensure all was in working order for the trip I removed the rear bumper caps and found that my new sewer hoses were coated with rust. It looks like the bumper filled with water from the roof runoff. The ends of the bumper are about 1 inch shorter than the width of the trailer so the water coming down just poured onto the rubber cap and through the centre hole. I plan on covering the holes with duct tape until I ca figure out another solution.

The holes are for bumper ventilation. With air flow, the hoses can dry. If closed, the bumper can rust from the inside out.

I'm sure the bumper is painted on on the outside letting the inside to rust over time. Sticking a wet sewer hose into the bumper only adds to the rusts problem. I plan on painting the side of my bumper when I get a chance.

The ends of the bumper are about 1 inch shorter than the width of the trailer so the water coming down just poured onto the rubber cap and through the centre hole. I cut roof flashing (Home Depot) into two 4 inch pieces and Gorilla taped them to the end of the bumper. Water now doesn't enter the bumper caps.
