We have a brand new 2022 Stratus 261vrl and took it out for the first time this past weekend. No hot water. We have a dual gas/electric hot water heater. We tried a bunch of options during the weekend and the water heater finally fired up. However, it shut off after about a half hour and I could never get it restarted. It seemed like water was not getting into the water heater as very little water came out when opening the pressure valve.
After getting home home, I hooked up to water and turned on my hot water tap to make sure water was in the water heater. Then I turned on the propane and the water heater fired right up. I had it on for about 30 minutes but no even warm water came out of the tap. I'm not sure how long it takes for the water to warm up. I then turned the propane off, waited a little bit, ran the taps again, and just turned the electric switch on and nothing happened.
Today, I tried just turning on the electric switch again with the same result.
At our walk through, we were told to turn both the gas and electric switches on when we will take back-to-back showers because the unit recovers quicker. I have a friend who conserves his propane by just using the electric option when he has shore power. I would like to have this same option. Anyone else have this problem or know what we might do to fix it?
Thanks,
Sandy Rappeport

Sounds like your H2O heater might be in full or partial bypass mode. If so you probably burned out your electric heater element on the tank. It only takes a minute or two to burn out if turned on without a full tank of water. Check the heater bypass and make sure it's not bypassed.
Wish you the best and if it is indeed bypassed the dealer has some explaining to do. Of course it might be something other than what I mentioned. Hopefully others will chime in.

I have a Stratus 231VRB. I'm not aware of a water heater bypass valve so I'd be interested if someone knows where one is located. I'll have to see if the valve is mentioned in my Owner's Manual.
If I have awhile to heat the water, I turn on the electric element. Once the water is hot, and my wife and I are going to take showers, I turn on the propane and turn off the electric. I've never run out of hot water on propane, including when we wash our hair. I don't take "Navy showers" when at a campground with full hookups.

where would I find the heater bypass? By-pass valves are usually behind the water heater in a cabinet. Ours has two, one above the other. Older systems may have three. Ours has a switch, for the electric element, in the outside water heater compartment that has to be turned on, also. When I drain the water heater, I cut it off so the element can not be turned on, from inside, with the tank empty. I also run the outside shower hot water to purge any tank air before cutting on the water heater.

where would I find the heater bypass? On the back of the water heater (inside the coach and usually under the kitchen sink) there will be two valves, one at 12 O'clock and one a 6 O'clock. If the handles are pointing towards the tank then water can flow into the tank. If the valve handles are pointing away from the tank to the right or left then the tank is in by pass. Do note however that both valves must be fully in the same direction either for bypass or opened. Hope you get this resolved so you can start enjoying your rig and be a happy camper.

And as someone already pointed out, you likely burned out the electric heating element. Luckily, it is easy to replace. You want 120-volt, 1400 or 1500 watt, nothing bigger. 1 1/2" socket.

The water heater in my Stratus is located at the back of my trailer inside a storage closet. There's a panel inside the closet that would have to be removed to access the water heater. I don't know if any bypass valves are behind the panel.

I don't know if any bypass valves are behind the panel. I also have a 231VRB. There are two valves attached to the water heater behind that panel. They should be pointed towards the water heater for normal use, and perpendicular to the back of the water heater for bypass. Most recent RVs are the same.
