Okay, so how long do you drain your grey/black tanks? I’ve noticed some people open and shut after the initial swoosh of water and others who wait. I have the “Dutch guilt” while I’m draining and a camper pulls up behind me and I can still hear water dribbling out, should I stop or continue? I’m concerned about 1) smelly tanks 2)dry rot and 3)maintaining a working system.

Most RVers are patient folks.

That's why I dump at the house. When you leave campground in the rain and get home in the rain, I can dump the next day.

When I am dumping the black tank I just dump and close and then add a few gallons of water. Also also pour in my blank tank treatment (Liquified). On the last day of camping within in the last hour before we pull out and head for hime I will dump all tanks (your suppose to travel with empty tanks), I will flush my black tank for 30 minutes. I will close the valve and fill up with water 3/4 tank full and dump again. I will let my Sewer flush run during this process. Don't get distracted when doing this or you will over flow you blank tank and have mess to clean up. I always set my watch alarm when filling. I can't dump at home so the trailer is only there to unload and then head to the off site storage facility. I add chemicals again on the last dump and leave a few gallons in the tank. I only used Walmart "Great Value" toilet paper because it disintegrates in the water better than the rest.

(your suppose to travel with empty tanks) Page 53 of my 2017 manual: Black (Sewer) Tank. Fill tank with 8-10 gallons of water. Add one bottle of drain cleaner, such as Drano or Liquid Plumber. Leave the solution in tank while traveling. Rinse and drain tank.

My black tank fell off when it was 1/3 full and I was only driving less than 100 miles. Oh the trailer was brand new with 300 miles on it leaving dealer. Just hitting that one bump the brackets could not hold the weight and the tank broke away from the brackets. $1000 later fixed. Actually the tank fell off when I was already parked at the RV site and was sitting up camp and then all of a sudden "crashhhhhhh". I can't believe they said use Draino or Liquid Plumber, it's kind of like the medication they advertise on TV, it's helps one thing but then has 100 side affects : ( Suggestion: check the tanks holding brackets on your grays, black and fresh. My fresh water tank had straps going all the way around the tank holding it pretty secured. But the gray and black tanks (smaller) had only these 6 two inch brackets only around the edges of the tank gripping just the first one inch edge of the tank. With the weight of liquids the tank apparenly bowed and the sides of tank pulled inward pulling away from the brackets. It was chain reaction once one bracket slipped then the others followed. I had the dealer install additional brackets around the perimeter of the tanks. Be sure next time your parked checked your brackets makes sure there are over the edge of the tanks and that they are tight. I think someone at the factory didn't tighten the brackets tight enough. Be safe Attachments:

www.youtube.com/shorts/yK33yAtUVYsLiquid Plumber and Drano can damage your pipes, the pipes are PVC just like in your home. Will damage your rubber seals on your toilet and dump valves.

Just copied what was in the manual. I barely use any chemicals in the black tank. Just a little seal conditioner about twice a year.

It's best to take advice from Professionals and not do exactly what one person might have done and say it works. You should join the "RVTravel subscriptions and they have a weekly live video from other professional RV electricians, Plumbers, tire engineers and so on. Remember times change, things that worked Ok 10 years ago may not be good practice today.

I had to unsubscribe from "RV Travel" due to connection issues. It may be fixed now. Beware of "professionals" on the internet. I disagree with a lot of the garbage I see posted, even some manufacturer's how-to video content. Best to watch multiple videos on a subject and weed out the trash.

I agree with what WrkrBee said. Several years ago the tanks were made like army tanks the walls were thick and strong. Today the plastic tanks are paper thin.
