We discovered another "what were they thinking" feature. So the "headboard" has zippers in it, I guess for some storage. So the grandson unzipped one side, pulled on it to open, and it pulled one side of the "headboard" out of the wall. Turns out, the whole "headboard" is held on by two skinny screws (Picture 1). Venture was kind enough to snap some decorative button on top of the screw head, to make it unremovable, inaccessible, and useless (Picture 2). So I cobbled together a short screw, a dimple washer, and a fender washer to spread the load (Picture 3). I got the old screw back in the stripped out hole, then went above it with the patch job. All this is mounted inside the zippered pocket. They could have used a dozen screws to hold the "headboard" on, used no buttons, and made it a lot more user friendly. I despise hidden fasteners. Those decorative buttons come off. They are actually a wrapping on a snap.

Those decorative buttons come off. They are actually a wrapping on a snap. I tried to remove it. It would spin, but not turn the screw. I pried with a screwdriver, but it just wobbled. I was working on a moving panel and didn't want to pull the other side off, also. Since it was in a covered pocket, it was too easy to put the "fix" above it.
