How can I determine if I burn up the unit I made a dump move hook the battery up wrong .

Welcome to the Forum. Did you see smoke or something else? Connect the battery right, plug the unit in and see what works. The converter has the Auto-Detect feature, for different battery types, so it may have the circuity to be able to protect itself from a reversed connection.
Check your battery voltage, then plug the camper into shore power, then check the battery voltage again. If the voltage increases, the charging side of the converter is working.
