ok, so in using this unit over the weekend I was sitting at the table and trying to hear news and weather on the tv. Had to shut off the AC to hear the tv. Loaded an app to my phone and the dang AC is at 71db (app may not be accurate but a good reference) In research, i see other folks with other brands have like complaints.
how about you venture owners, loud ac?
So in research I also found that ducted systems seem to have a solution and on other rv forums others have had various success by sealing seams.
In opening mine it has a baffle and some duct tape on the cold side but the return side (warm air) is wide open. I am going to glue some noise dampening to metal surfaces to see if I can bring this down. the TV volume is not high enough to compete! lol

You will have to return when you finish your workaround to the AC Unit. But that being said the noise level really has come way down sense 40 years ago. You got to figure how close we are to the unit as well. I'm curious anyway to see how your results come out.

SO, While in there I cleaned the evaporator coil, it was dirty as heck, used HD coil cleaner and a spray bottle of water. Looks good, can see through it now. First issue was my 5/16 bolts to the roof top were VERY loose. Tightened them. Added 3m aluminum tape to the coupler (was grey duct tape) for output air. Since this MACH has a built in deflector for front to rear, the coupler is very important to be sealed. Added sound deadening felt to the bottom of the squirrel cage container. While in there I cleaned everything with a shop vac it was very dirty. Not sure the default filters do any good.
after reassembly sound is 62db measured in the same place with the same phone app as the 71, so by reference about 9db down. That is substantial and you are able to hear the difference. Still not the best but better. Was glad I checked the bolts to the roof unit as there could be a potential for leaks if that remained.
Will I do more? Likely, where the inside roof unit meets the deflector, there are plastic channels that do not seal. Am going to add thin foam weatherstrip there. Additionally I have ordered disposable filters for the unit which i expect to further reduce noise. Last thing the blower motor has bearing noise if you move the squirrel cage by hand so that will be the next replacement.
With winter do not expect to use AC as much and with just completing the solar (for my quartzite adventure) will not run ac on the inverter. However, I will have the generator with me should that be necessary for AC. Am going to pull the ac roof cover to see if there is detail on the motor, so many options on amazon, need to do my research.
